San Marino Living
This charming
residential city that was originally part of an enormous land grant,
given to the San Gabriel Mission by the King of Spain over 100 years
ago.
It is a
community that is uniquely residential, with expansive properties,
surrounded by
.....
.....beautiful
gardens with wide streets, and well maintained parkways. Today, the
community has become one of Los Angeles’ County most favored
residential communities as well as a premiere shopping area within
the valley.
San Marino is known
as a small, upper middle to upper class, well educated community
largely populated by professionals and their families. The city is
primarily known for its immaculately preserved housing stock, its
strict zoning laws, and its schools.
Most houses in San
Marino were built in the 1940’s and earlier. It was the “Beverly
Hills” before the city moved west, towards the Pacific.
San Marino real
estate options include single-family detached homes for sale, estate
properties, condominiums, townhouses and land lots.
The
houses are large, most with 3, 4, 5 or more bedrooms and average
prices range from $400,000 to $1 million or more.
There are four public
schools in San Marino: Valentine Elementary School, Carver
Elementary, Huntington Middle, and San Marino High School.
Southwestern Academy, a private college preparatory school, is also
located in San Marino.
The city is divided
into seven zones, based on minimum lot size. The smallest lot size
is 9000 square feet, with many averaging over 30,000 square feet.
Because of this and other factors, most of the homes in San Marino,
built between 1920 and 1950, do not resemble the houses in
surrounding Southern California neighborhoods (with the exception
perhaps of neighboring Pasadena). San Marino has also fostered a
sense of historic preservation among its homeowners.
San Marino homes are
older, bigger and more genteel than those in other communities. No
apartment buildings exist in the city.
Its high school
consistently ranks as the highest API score among public high
schools in California. All of its public schools are distinguished
as California "Blue Ribbon" schools.
Spend a quiet
afternoon strolling through the Los Angeles Arboretum where you can
get up close and personal with beautiful peacocks as they roam
freely about, or have a family picnic in one of the city's luscious
green parks. Perhaps you prefer a day of shopping at Santa Anita
Fashion Park, or an exciting afternoon of thoroughbred racing.
Whatever your interests, rest assured San Marino is not only a city
for shopping and gardens but a place where you will find fine
schools for your children.
